Today it is far more common to receive healthcare outside of hospital. In all areas of the country community healthcare, as it is called, is being opened up to private companies, Your scan or blood test, your child’s hearing test or your friend’s home birth, could all be performed by private companies funded, but not run by the NHS.
Virgin, Specsaver and Inhealth are amongst the firms moving into this area, but competition for public funds is growing with 105 providers given the go ahead, whilst over 2000 applied. Briefings
