NHS commissioners have given a contract worth approximately £80m to a transport company that councillors have previously branded as “diabolical”. Since June 1, E-Zec have been running non-emergency transport services for patients in Swindon, Wiltshire, Bath and north-east Somerset. They receive around 1,600 calls a day, despite expecting less than a third of this amount. This has raised concerns about the company’s ability to fulfil increasing demands.
