Imperial College Healthcare trust has decided to keep hotel services, which includes porters, cleaners and catering, inhouse across its sites, after the success of a one-year trial. Until early 2020 these services were provided by Sodexo.
In early 2020 more than 1,000 cleaners, porters and catering staff transferred from Sodexo to direct management by the trust. A spokeswoman said the Sodexo contract had cost roughly £150m over five and a half years.
In October 2019 the trust decided it would spend an extra £4m a year bringing hotel services staff up to the London Living Wage of £10.55 an hour from the national minimum wage of £8.21 an hour. The decision followed industrial action by staff. The new arrangement brings staff on to the Agenda for Change pay framework.
