A private provider has recently been awarded NHS contract in Bolton to provide diabetic health services. This has included ‘controversial changes to diabetic screening’ according to Bolton News, causing concerns that the new provider will split up key parts of the service. Campaigners from Bolton Save Our NHS Service and Keep Our NHS Public are concerned that this decision has split up key parts of the service.
Previously, the patients would get their feet and eyes examined in the same appointment at Royal Bolton Hospital, where there were also specialists on site. Patients must now make separate appointments for these checks, meaning attendances may drop, putting patient safety at risk.
