Bradford NHS workers plan another strike

West Yorkshire health workers voted to started an indefinite strike from Monday 26 August. The strike is against privatisation of the NHS. On 1 August, 300 Unison union members of Royal Bradford Infirmary and St Luke’s Hospital took strike action, following potential changes to their NHS wages and terms and conditions.

Hospital bosses claimed that they could safeguard the workers NHS wages and terms and conditions for 25 years after the jobs of porters, cleaners and other support staff are transferred to Bradford Healthcare Facilities Management – a private provider – on 1 October. However, at a meeting the bosses had to admit to workers that they could not formally/ legally guarantee this safety net.
