HSJ reports that 14 trust procurement chiefs have been brought in to help the central team trying to source personal protective equipment.
The heads of procurement at 14 trusts and their teams have been asked to help purchase PPE domestically and internationally on behalf of the UK, as part of the cross-government operation. Each have been given a specific types of equipment to buy.
Senior procurement sources suggested the move was a sign of an “obviously struggling” central operation.
The consultancy firm Deloitte is supposed to be playing a central role in the national procurement of this crucial kit and this news raises questions over their role and how they were appointed. HSJ has seen documents that say Deloitte has been trying to source PPE from China for some time.
