HSJ reports that the government will not receive any reimbursement for the 50 million masks supplied by Ayanda Capital, which may never be used in the NHS.
The FFP2 masks supplied by Ayanda Capital along with the firm Prospermill, told HSJ, that its products met all appropriate regulatory standards and fulfilled the terms of the deal.
But the masks will not be used by the NHS over concerns they may not fit adequately, according to a report published on Thursday by The Times. A government legal document published by the Good Law Project says: “We can confirm that they will not be used in the NHS.” The masks fasten with ear loops rather than head loops, which may make them less likely to pass fit testing.
The masks were sourced as part of a £252m deal that also included 150 million Type IIR masks, which have been delivered to the DHSC.
