Warrington and Halton Hospitals Trust private operation service suspended

Warrington South MP Faisal Rashid approved of the action of Warrington and Halton Hospitals Trust to stop charging ‘low clinical priority’ patients for operations. The service-My Choice-charged staggering amounts for operations. For example, cataract operations were £2368, hernia operations were £7719 and people needing hip and knee replacements were being charged up to £18,143. Faisal Rashid said that the lack of NHS funding has forced trusts to set up services where people have to pay for operations. It is being investigated whether cutting the service completely will put NHS patients waiting for surgery at a disadvantage.
